Diandra Meloni is interning for Positive Outcomes, Inc. at the Mary Ethel Costello school in Gloucester City, NJ. She is currently supervised by both Jessica Ramsden, MA, LAC, and Laxmi Parmeswar, President and CEO. Diandra received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in the spring of 2012 from Hofstra University, and began graduate studies the following fall at Rowan University. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, to be completed by the Summer of 2014. She is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), and will be pursuing her counseling licensure post-graduation.
Her experience has been varied among many volunteer opportunities; she has worked in both nursing homes and with hospice care doing in-patient activities as well as bereavement calling for caretakers of lost loved ones. She has spoken with individuals most specifically about grief and loss; however, she has very wide clinical interests and would ideally like to work with an outpatient population on a variety of issues. Her primary interests are anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and substance use and abuse.
Diandra will be in charge of intake and assessment paperwork at Positive Outcomes, as well as conducting counseling sessions with residents of the Gloucester City community. She will be training under both Jessica and Laxmi in order to prepare to conduct both individual and family sessions. Her school training is based on the cognitive-behavioral approach. Overall, she favors a variety of techniques drawn from CBT, humanistic, and psychodynamic philosophies of counseling. She believes that true “wellness” does not only encompass physical health, but also a commitment to caring for psychological and spiritual needs. She hopes to use this opportunity with Positive Outcomes to grow in her counseling skills, in order to help her clients recognize their full inner potential.
