Dave Schanding

Dave Schanding has worked for 35+ years in the areas of mental health and substance abuse treatment. He started his career as a counselor and clinical supervisor and has been director of a comprehensive community mental health/substance abuse treatment agency in the Chicago area for over two decades. He is currently Mental Health Division Director of the Lake County Health Department, a public agency that provides residential and outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment services and services focusing on adults with serious and persistent mental illness and youths in emotional crisis. Under his leadership, the agency has grown 2 ½ times, has achieved Joint Commission accreditation, and has kept up with the emerging trends in treatment improvements. Mr. Schanding has graduate degrees in counseling psychology and management with a focus on healthcare administration. He is currently working on a certificate in biomedical informatics related to electronic clinical health records. Mr. Schanding is extremely family oriented and is an outstanding community citizen.
