Venkatraman E. Seshan, Ph.D.


Venkatraman E. Seshan, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at Columbia University, New York where he is also Director of Biostatistics at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Indian Statistical Institute in Calcutta and his Ph.D. from Stanford University, California. Upon graduation, he joined the Department of Statistics at the University of Arizona in Tucson. After spending a year and a half there, he moved to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, NY, where he applied his statistical skills as a member of a multi-disciplinary team searching for a cure for cancer. He has over 140 peer-reviewed publications in statistical methodology and its application to biomedical problems. In his leadership position at Columbia University, he provides guidance to younger researchers in the field. His experience working in a clinical environment has only further enhanced his desire to help others. During his free time, Dr. Seshan volunteers as a tutor in adult literacy classes in New York City.
